Plantar Fasciitis

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain in adults. The fascia is the band of tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes. Repeated strains to this band can cause tiny tears in it, which could bring on inflammation, weakness, irritation, pain, stiffness in the bottom of your heel, tenderness on the bottom of your feet and tightness in your arch. A lot of people notice their plantar fasciitis the most when they take their first steps after sleeping or sitting for long periods, climbing stairs or doing intense activities.

What causes strains and tears in the fascia?

There are several reasons why plantar fasciitis can occur. One reason could be that your feet roll inward too much when walking, which could cause strains. Having high arches or flat feet and wearing worn out shoes is also a common problem. Tight achilles tendons or calf muscles combined with being overweight are also reasons to get plantar fasciitis. Finally, walking, standing and running for long periods on hard surfaces can cause tears in your fascia.

How can I treat my Plantar Fasciitis?

The best thing you can do to treat your plantar fasciitis is to give your feet a rest. Stop walking on hard surfaces and get a good pair of shoes with good arch support and a cushioned sole. Also, wearing a heel cup, shoes inserts or night splints could help as well. Putting ice on your heel can help stop some of the pain.

Are there any ways to prevent Plantar Fasciitis?

The best way to prevent plantar fasciitis is to make sure your ankles, achilles tendons and calf muscles stay flexible. That way, it makes it less likely for your fascia to tear.

Testimonial

I saw Doc when I was a senior at central college. He really took great care of me and the patients received great treatments. I just graduated chiropractic school 6 months ago and want to thank Doc for the motivation to pursue chiropractic school.
